A lot of people wanted to have their faces plastered in videos, lives, but not everyone has cameras or desire to show their face.
With that some developers created tools to facilitate this, and some players thought of using these features for other things, like putting a Vrchat character on a green background appearing in videos or lives, thus not needing to record their faces.
